Instructions for Sending a 3D Scan to the Dental Clinic

The process of sending images can be divided into two main stages: file archiving and sending

Usually, the 3D scan (CT) is provided to the patient on a CD with folders and files. These files and folders must be combined into one archive. To do this, you will need the WinRAR program. If you do not have it installed, you can download it from this link https://www.rarlab.com/rar/winrar-x32-700b3.exe and install it.

1.1 – Installing WinRAR

Right-click the downloaded file and select “Open”.

In the window that appears:

That’s it — WinRAR is installed, and we can continue.

Depending on your computer’s operating system, additional windows may appear — simply close them.

1.2 – Archiving the files

Insert the disc with your scan into the drive and wait for it to load. In the window that appears, select “Open folder to view files”.

Select all files and folders, right-click the selection, and choose “Add to archive…”

The “Archive name and parameters” window will appear. First, click “Browse…” and select where the archive will be saved — for example, “Desktop”. Then click “OK”. In the “Archive name” field, you can enter a custom name (preferably your last name) or leave the default one generated by the computer.

After clicking “OK”, wait until the program finishes archiving. The time required depends on your computer’s performance and the total size and number of files. This completes the first stage — “Archiving files”. Let’s move to the second stage.

Stage 2 – Sending the archive

First method

Use a file-sharing service.

To receive a remote consultation from a dentist at the “Aldenta” Medical Center, you need to send us your jaw scan. Some patients experience difficulties sending images over the Internet, so we have prepared this step-by-step guide describing how to send scans using file-sharing services.

1) Go to the service website using this link. You will see a page like this:

2) Click the “Upload” button.

3) The Windows File Explorer window will open. Navigate to the folder where the prepared archive with your scan is stored, select it, and click “Open”. (See above for instructions on how to create an archive.)

4) In the new window, click “Start upload”.

5) After the upload is complete, enter your email address and the email address of the “Aldenta” Medical Center (aldentarakov@gmail.com). You can set the file storage duration or leave it by default (this is how long the files will remain accessible via the download link). Optionally, you may add a comment, then click “Save and send”. After submission, the service may prompt you to create an account or sign in via social networks — this step is optional; you can simply close the tab.

Second method

Use your email service (if available). Most mail providers — Yandex Mail, Gmail, etc. — allow file attachments. Simply attach the archive file to your email. If the file size is large, it will automatically be uploaded to cloud storage, and we will receive a download link. Convenient and simple!

See above for instructions on how to combine your scan files into an archive.

That’s it — your scan has been successfully sent to the dental clinic.
